empowering

I knew the name Richard Ambrose Kenchington long before I met him.

His name was synonymous with integrated ocean governance, complex marine spatial planning and MPA management. He was a giant in the world of marine conservation.

When I did have the pleasure of meeting him I was a newly minted 'Doctor', tentative and insecure and thoroughly intimidated by his reputation. Richard went out of his way to make time for me - listening to my ideas and encouraging me to explore them.

He was humble, generous, thoughtful, kind and constructive and having his support and mentorship was incredibly empowering.

l would like to especially acknowledge the important role he played in opening the door for women like me to grow my career.
